You Probably Won't Want to Train at Lincoln Barbell Club if ...

1. ...You feel the need to be involved in fitness crazes, internet challenges, like fads, enjoy bro-science.

We provide authentic strength training to achieve the best individual results, as efficiently and effectively as possible. We don't exercise, we train. Our goal is to build strength and gain health and well-being. We're not interested in gimmicks or 5 minute wonders. At Lincoln Barbell Club, we help people to view the way they train differently so they can make a life-long change. We use scientifically proven methods to develop our programs, not haphazard random exercise choices, so that you get the optimum methods to evolve.

2. ...You want to max-out all the time. If you aren't at death's door after each session, you feel you aren't training hard enough. You exercise for over an hour each session. Are happy to squat in a Smith's Press (oh dear!).

We provide our members with an education not only in how to lift correctly, but why. We program training so that you aren't burning yourself out by maxing all the time, and we train as efficiently and effectively as possible - so your gym time never interferes with the other stuff that's important. Truth is, if you're spending longer than an hour each session in the gym, there's probably something wrong with your training.

We want to give our members ownership of their training, ultimately contributing to their health instead of needing to look for the next best thing which isn't going to work. Many of our members have come to us because they have been led to believe they can't perform squats, deadlifts and presses, that they have mobility issues and/or weaknesses, or have been left in pain by the technique instruction their PT has given them (such as squatting in a Smith's Press). Most of these assertions have been proven wrong after a couple of training sessions with us.

3. ...You like being a marketing statistic, mis-led and up-sold every month, parting with more and more money on the sessions you "need". You like to spend a fortune on PT.

We are not a chain gym. We are a family-run independent gym, free from corporate fitness baloney, cloned 6-week certified PT instructors and standard machine equipment. We only charge one membership rate - coaching and programming is included in that (if you want it). There is no extra cost. Membership rolls from month to month too, so you aren't tied into any long-term contracts. Lincoln Barbell Club is as simple as it gets!

4. ... You like shiny machines and dazzled by colour coordinated weight plates.

We don't have machines. You train at your best with free weights - barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells. Your body is the machine! Twenty kilos is twenty kilos - does it really matter what colour that weight is?

5. ...You don't want to put in effort, persistence, developing an iron will and just outright hard work.

There are no quick fixes! True change comes from hard work, effort and consistency. We are all told that we need to find our motivation to help focus on our training. Baloney! Consistency will achieve goals more than wanting to fit into a dress or have a "holiday body". Just do the work, pure and simple!

6. ...If you like to stand in front of gym mirrors taking selfies or watching yourself exercise.

We don't have mirrors. We're not bothered if your make-up is on fleek, what your hair is doing or how you look while you bicep curl. The myth that you need mirrors to check your form is just that, a myth. If your technique is correct, you won't be able to see your form in the mirror.

7. ...You want to impress us with your bikini body or wash-board abs.

We couldn't be more unimpressed. We are impressed with the mum who pulls 150kg from the floor like it's nothing, the young guy riddled with anxiety who makes it in to the gym and trains, the woman who hates looking at herself in the mirror build her confidence and self-esteem, the guy in his 60s who thought he was "passed it" get a PB in his squat. We could go on. But they are the people who impress us!

Lincoln Barbell Club is welcoming to everyone! We love watching our members train, evolve and accomplish what they thought impossible.
